Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 27, 2026
1. Who We Are
Yarnie is operated by Yarnie Pty Ltd, based in Australia. We provide a family communication service that connects children with their parents and approved family members through voice calls using dedicated Yarnie devices.
For privacy inquiries, contact us at: support@getyarnie.com
2. Information We Collect
We collect the minimum information necessary to provide our service:
- Account information: Parent email address and display name for authentication and communication.
- Child information: First name, age, and optional profile photo, used to identify the child within the family group. Children do not have email addresses or phone numbers associated with their profiles.
- Profile photos: Optional photos uploaded by parents for their own profile or their child's profile, stored securely and deleted when the account is deleted.
- Device identifiers: Push notification tokens to enable incoming call alerts on your mobile device.
- Call records: Timestamps, duration, and participant names for each call, displayed in your call history.
- Device information: Yarnie device identifiers to associate physical devices with your family account.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information solely to provide and improve our service:
- Enable voice calls between family members
- Send push notifications for incoming calls and contact request updates
- Display call history in the app
- Authenticate users and manage family groups
- Provide customer support
- Improve service reliability and fix technical issues
We do not use your information for advertising, marketing to children, or selling to third parties.
Notification preferences: You can manage or disable notifications through your device's system settings at any time. If you decline notification permission, incoming calls will not ring on your device but the app will otherwise continue to function normally.
4. Third-Party Services
We use trusted third-party infrastructure providers for authentication, data storage, real-time voice communication, and push notifications. These providers process data only as necessary to deliver their services and are bound by their own privacy policies and data protection agreements.
A list of our current sub-processors is available on request by contacting support@getyarnie.com.
5. Children's Privacy
Yarnie is designed for family use, with parents maintaining full control over their children's experience. We take children's privacy seriously:
- Children do not create accounts directly. Parents create and manage all child profiles.
- We collect minimal information about children: first name, age, and an optional profile photo.
- Children can only communicate with contacts approved by their parents.
- We do not display advertising to children or collect data for advertising purposes.
- We do not use tracking technologies targeted at children.
- Parents can view, modify, or delete their child's information at any time.
By creating a child profile, parents provide verifiable consent for the collection and use of their child's information as described in this policy.
6. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as necessary to provide our service:
- Account data: Retained until you request account deletion.
- Call records: Retained for 90 days, then automatically deleted.
- Device tokens: Updated when you open the app; removed when you sign out or delete your account.
- Profile photos: Permanently deleted when you delete your account or remove the photo.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of your personal data.
- Correction: Update or correct inaccurate information.
- Deletion: Delete your account and all associated data directly from the app (You > Delete Account), or by contacting us.
- Export: Receive your data in a portable format.
To exercise these rights, contact us at support@getyarnie.com. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Data Security
We implement appropriate security measures to protect your data:
- All data is encrypted in transit using TLS/SSL.
- Data is stored with security rules that restrict access to authorised users only.
- Authentication tokens are stored securely on your device.
- We regularly review and update our security practices.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app or via email. Your continued use of Yarnie after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
